The Ibo art is different from other big Nigerian tribes due to its incredible diversity in the art of expressions. This enormous diversity became first apparent after the end of the Biafra War, which swept a great deal of Ibo Objects into the western world and made the artistic meaning of this tribe apparent.
This goat mask has belonged to the collection of Boris Kegel- Konitzko since the 1950s and is in an excellent condition. The person wearing this mask, which gains its special attraction through the harmonic mixture of human and animalistic looks, demonstrates his prosperity, with which the goat is symbolically identified.
The mask was bought in 1956 in East Nigeria by Lore Kegel and shows a nice usage at the strap holes and still carries inside the mask the original label of the collector.
